Top Baby Product Essentials: The First Year




With surveys stating that in the first year of your babies life, you can spend upwards of £8000 just for their essentials, it can be quite a daunting time for your finances.

Planning for a newborn is hugely exciting, so I thought I would compose this list of baby must haves, to make the first year with your little one amazing and less stressful.

DRESSING

  • One piece outfits 
  • Bodysuits 
  • Leggings / Stretchy trousers
  • Outer layers including fleece jackets and jumpers
  • Hats and mittens 
  • Socks 
  • Booties 
  • Pajamas 


NAPPY CHANGING

  • Nappies; Cloth or disposable, this aspect of having a newborn can be quite expensive as in their first weeks of life they will probably go through around 10 - 12 a day. 
  • Wipes
  • Nappy cream 
  • Changing mat or table  


SLEEP TIME


  • Cot, cradle or bassinet 
  • Firm mattress
  • Fitted sheets 
  • Mattress protector 
  • Light and heavy blankets, dependent on season and climate 
  • Sleeping bags


FEEDING

If Breastfeeding; 


  • Breastfeeding pillow 
  • Nipple ointment to help with cracked and sore nipples
  • Muslin clothes
  • Breast pump
  • Milk bags 
  • Nursing pads

Standard feeding accessories;

  • Bottles and nipples
  • Bottle brushes 
  • Burp clothes 
  • Formula (if not nursing)
  • Sterilizer 

For when your start weaning;

  • High chair 
  • Baby bowls
  • Baby spoons 
  • Sippy cups
  • Bibs 

LETS GO OUTSIDE

Pushchair
Changing bag
Rain-cover
Parasol
Footmuff for the colder months

Car seat (mandatory) - Remember not all car seats fit every vehicle so get advice before you buy one and realise it does not suit the car you have.


BATH TIME


  • Bath Tub 
  • Soap and Shampoo 
  • Towels 
  • Washclothes


LETS PLAY 

  • Playmat / gym
  • Toys including rattles, musical toys, and soft toys 
  • Baby bouncer


SAFETY 

  • Baby gate for stairs including top and bottom, and also for any rooms you don't want them venturing in such as the bathroom and kitchen. 
  • Plug covers 
  • Cupboard and drawer latches 
  • Baby monitor


HEALTH

  • Bulb syringe 
  • Teething toys 
  • Digital thermometer
  • Baby nail scissors and clippers
  • Baby friendly laundry detergent 
  • Soft bristled baby brush
  • First aid kit
